Why TPI for Juniors?
Our junior programmes are guided by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) model of player development. This approach recognises that children grow and move differently, and that good golf technique should be built on strong movement skills rather than forced positions.
Before focusing on swing technique, we consider how each child moves — including balance, coordination, posture, and basic strength. Coaching is then adapted to suit the child’s stage of physical and motor development, ensuring learning is safe, natural, and age-appropriate.
Benefits for Junior Golfers
Using the TPI model helps children to:
Develop balance, coordination, and body awareness
Build strong movement patterns that support good technique
Learn skills appropriate to their age and maturity
Reduce the risk of injury as they grow
Improve confidence through achievable progress
Enjoy the game more through positive learning experiences

Parent FAQ – TPI for Juniors
What is TPI?
TPI stands for the Titleist Performance Institute, a globally recognised system used in golf to guide player development through movement, fitness, and technique. For juniors, it helps ensure coaching matches how a child’s body is growing and developing.
Why is movement important for young golfers?
Children are still developing coordination, balance, strength, and posture. If technique is taught without considering how a child moves, it can lead to poor habits or frustration. TPI-based coaching focuses first on building good movement skills, which then support better golf technique.
Does this mean my child won’t learn proper golf technique?
No. Technique is still taught, but it is introduced in a way that suits your child’s physical development. Rather than forcing one “perfect” swing, coaching is adapted to what your child can safely and naturally achieve at their stage of growth.
How does this help my child improve?
Using the TPI approach helps children to:
* Develop better balance and coordination
* Build strong foundations for future technique
* Progress at a pace suited to their age and maturity
* Gain confidence through achievable goals
* Enjoy learning without unnecessary pressure
Is this approach safe for growing children?
Yes. One of the key benefits of TPI-based junior coaching is that it supports safe physical development. By focusing on posture, mobility, and movement quality, the risk of overuse injuries and poor movement habits is reduced as children grow.
Is TPI only for advanced or competitive players?
No. TPI is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to competitive juniors. It simply ensures that coaching is appropriate for each child’s stage of development rather than based only on age or ability.
How is my child assessed?
Your child’s movement, balance, and basic athletic skills are observed and guided through simple, age-appropriate activities. This helps shape how technique and skills are introduced in their coaching programme.
What is the long-term benefit of this approach?
The goal is not just to create better junior golfers, but to develop:
* Strong movement foundations
* Healthy physical habits
* Confidence and enjoyment
* A positive relationship with the game
This supports both long-term golf performance and overall physical development.
